Hearing loss is incredibly common, affecting about 48 million people in the U.S. alone. But despite this, many people put off seeking treatment. In fact, only one in five people who could benefit from hearing aids<\/a> actually wears them. Experts believe a major factor for this is the stigma surrounding hearing aid usage.<\/p>\n\n\n

One study<\/a> conducted by Margaret Wallhagen, Ph.D. entitled \u201cThe Stigma of Hearing Loss\u201d was published in The Gerontologist <\/em>in 2010. The purpose of the study was to explore the dimensions of stigma older adults with hearing loss experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
