At first, you may not be able to wear them for very long, as you\u2019ll be overwhelmed with all the sounds you\u2019ve been missing. Slowly work up to wearing them all day long. Committing to the rehabilitation process is what will help you hear your best.<\/li><li>Clean them nightly. Because hearing aids spend most of their time in your ear&#8217;s rugged environment, they\u2019re exposed to oils, sweat, dirt and earwax. It\u2019s essential to clean your devices each night after you take them out to keep them in good working order. To do this, wipe them down with a soft, dry, clean cloth, then remove stubborn debris with a wax pick\/wire loop.<\/li><li><strong>Keep spare batteries on hand.<\/strong> According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK567712\/\">National Library of Medicine<\/a>, \u201cA battery can last from 3 to 22 days, dependent on the type of hearing aid, frequency of use, required amplification, and any modern modifications that are used.\u201d Because so many factors influence battery life, you never know when yours will die. Keeping spare batteries on hand can help prevent you from being stranded unable to hear. To extend your battery life, open the battery door at night.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019ts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to your hearing aids, <em>don\u2019t:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Try to fix them yourself. <\/strong>Your audiologist will teach you basic troubleshooting, but if your hearing aids are visibly broken, don\u2019t try fixing them yourself. Instead, bring them to your audiologist for <a href=\"https:\/\/carolinaearnosethroat.com\/hearing-aids\/hearing-aid-service-repairs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">repair<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>Get them wet.<\/strong> Some devices have protective Nano coatings and high IP ratings, but even these aren\u2019t completely waterproof.
